Country Home
The image of the country home has taken a very romantic turn in the modern world. It is everything that a suburban home is not. While a suburban house might be from the same cookie-cutter design of every other house on the block or in the planned, gated community, its counterpart outside of the suburbs is original, unique, and has its own personality. There’s the very real sense that you can get closer to nature with the rustic décor, and it has a comforting quality that makes people want to curl up on a plush, over-stuffed couch with a handmade quilt. Instead of a heater, there’s a wood-burning fireplace. Instead of thick carpet, there is hard wood floors with the occasional rug. Instead of photos or paintings on the painted walls, there are hunting trophies, guns, or other rustic antiques on walls of stone or wood. It feels like every day might be a camping trip. Who would want to surround themselves with that sense? Especially if it begins to feel like the city or the suburbs are simply too boring, too staid, and too cookie-cutter.
There are many different ways to turn your house into a country home without actually purchasing a new house. First, consider the colors that you are decorating with. Instead of being boring and white, or beige, they should be deep, shining, inviting earth tones. Colors are like deep brown, green, or blue are a great choice. You can also consider your accents or accessories in your home. For example, your lighting choices.
