Country Home Décor Accents
Accents and accessories should never dominate a room. You should think of them as something like earrings or necklaces, or even a purse. While they should be present and match the main event, they shouldn’t take away from the main thing, only add to the interest. A good pair of earrings might highlight the blue in a sweater, or the hint of green in your eyes, but they shouldn’t be the first thing people notice when you walk into the room. The same holds true for accents when you are decorating. They should highlight certain aspects of the room—like the color palette—without dominating it completely. The fun thing about accents is that you can add them, move them, or rotate them continuously, and they will only add depth and character to a room. Even though they should not dominate a space, that’s not reason to ignore them altogether. You should not consider a room complete until you have the proper accents in the proper locations.
Country home décor accents are particularly fun to work with, because there’s such a huge variety. You could aim for something very classy, something very kitschy, something very primitive, or something that is very unique and best fits your personally and reflects who you are. Country home décor accents can include wall hangings, statues, figurines, welcome mats, blankets, jars, books, tins, light fixtures, and pillows—to name a few. Start with an empty space in the room. Consider it your blank slate. From there, begin to consider what it needs, and then move out from that space.
