Country Home Decorating
Interior decorating decisions rely heavily on personal taste, with a healthy dose of what is popular in the culture. One of the more recent movements in interior design is country home decorating. There are certain elements present for this type of home decoration. Some of the basic elements include colors, wall treatment, floor treatment, lighting, and the type of furniture used.
When the word “country” is used, most people think of rustic, unfinished, primitive, or even kitsch. The colors most associated with these adjectives are earth tones. Wood, either dark oak tints or unfinished pine, deep greens, and a range of blues are most often used. You would see very little bright red, purple, yellow, or any colors that are startling or would draw your eyes to it. Earthy tones are always the best. The wall and floor treatment is typically wood, either finished and varnished, or unfinished. Generally, the closer the wood looks to its raw form, the more people want it. The wood is often not painted by anything. At the most, it is varnished, which gives it a deep, golden globe.
Lighting is also a critical element. Instead of ultra-modern and chic, the lighting fixtures should be heavy, even slightly old fashioned. For example, the use of kerosene lamps is not out of the realm of possibility. You can also have ornately crafted ceiling or wall fixtures. Of course, lighting is just an example of accents that you can add to your room. Chairs and other furniture should also reflect the unfinished, earthy feel.
