Country Style Homes
Country style homes are also often referred to as southern style homes. That’s because they tend to be associated with the houses you might see on old plantations, or the ones you’d find in sleepy southern towns. The size and shape of the house can vary depending on the location and what the original owners and builders wanted, but there are a few characteristics that are shared from home to home in this particular style.
The first common characteristic is a deep porch that wraps around the entire house, or nearly the entire house. This offers a real sense of hospitality, especially with a porch swing or comfortable rocking chairs. It offers a place for people to come and gather in the low twilight, just as the sun is setting, and enjoy the oncoming coolness during a hot summer night. Another common characteristic is a big, airy kitchen. In the country and the south, the kitchen is the absolute heart of the of house. It’s the soul. So it’s got to be a good size, comfortable for cooking, and the sort of inviting place that people want to spend an afternoon or an evening. High ceilings are another common element. That’s because high ceilings are the best way to circulate air and encourage a bit of relief from high summer temperatures.
The number of bedrooms, the number of bathrooms, and whether or not there is also a garage is entirely optional. The general design of the home and the decoration is what creates country style homes.
